Handbook of Research on Computational Arts and Creative Informatics

Born from the editors' efforts to encourage students to use technology in meaningful ways outside the norm of mainstream thinking, this cross-disciplinary collection attempts to blur boundaries within computational arts and informatics, delving into the creative nature of technology itself. Computer scientists and artists address novel concepts in creation, interaction, communication, and interpretation of art through various technological means and media. Presented in a two-column format, the book is divided into four main categories. Section One provides a conceptual framework for the intersection of art, science, and technology. In Section Two, artists and researchers from diverse backgrounds describe current creative projects in areas such as holography, graphics tablets for fine art, and information visualization. The third section of the book sketches the interactions between culture, society, technology, and art, and the last section looks at creativity in online environments, virtual worlds, and artificial spaces such as Second Life.
