商品簡介
Lhwyd (b. 1660) was Keeper of the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford in 1707 when he published the first volume of an ambitious project describing the natural and early human history of the Celtic-speaking lands. No subsequent volumes followed, but what he did accomplish is regarded as one of the most significant works in European comparative linguistics and in Celtic studies. Evans and Roberts gather the various prefaces in various languages published (and translated) during the 18th century in which Lhwyd describes his aims and methods, and some other relevant documents, some never previously published in full, including commendatory poems to him by contemporary scholars.
