Thanks to his stints at Boca Juniors and Brazilian side Corinthians at the start of his career, he is also a popular figure across South America. On the international stage, he scored a phenomenal eight goals to seal gold medal victory for Argentina in the 2004 Olympic Games, and is a regular in the Argentina side.
