商品簡介
The popular notion is that the space between stars--besides the odd planet or two--is pretty much nothing at all, but astrophysicists have been looking at interstellar ions, atoms, molecules, and solid material for some time now using ultraviolet, optical, infrared, and millimeter parts of the electromagnetic spectrum. Kwok (physics, U. of Hong Kong) synthesizes some of the findings to date on matter and processes such as photo-ionization and recombination, interstellar molecules, the chemical composition of interstellar and circumstellar grains, and interactions between stars and the interstellar medium. Exercises are provided for classroom use. Annotation c2007 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
