An exploration of the concept of utopia in Latin America from the earliest accounts of the New World to current cultural production, the carefully selected essays in this volume represent the latest research on the topic by some of the most important Latin Americanists working in North American academia today. With an interdisciplinary approach, chapters discuss the notion of a utopian impulse in literature, music, performance, cinema, visual arts, critical theory, cultural studies, and political science. Among the many questions the book grapples with are how the utopian impulse is reconfigured over time, especially in new cultural fields and situations, and how Latin American utopias should be contextualized in the so-called global era.
作者簡介
Kim Beauchesne is an Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia. She has published in various edited volumes and top-tier journals, such as Revista de Critica Literaria Latinoamericana and Revista Iberoamericana. She is currently completing a book manuscript on the representation of the Latin American periphery in colonial and post-colonial narrative and is working on a new project addressing trans-Pacific studies.
Alessandra Santos is an Assistant Professor at the University of Utah. She has published in several edited volumes and selected journals, including Luso-Brazilian Review. She is currently completing a book manuscript on reinterpretations of cultural cannibalism and another on democratization, arts, and literature in Brazil.
