The widespread influence of the educational theories of Petrus Ramus in areas that include logic, rhetoric, visual techniques, and mathematics is described in the 12 essays of this revelatory volume. The first four essays describe Ramus and his theories in Britain; the remainder explore his impact on the work of European thinkers such as Lully, Brynjolf Sveinsson, and the celebrated 17th-century educational theorist Comenius. Most of the essays stem from the Petrus Ramus Conference held at the U. of St Andrews, Scotland in June 2008; those by Sarah Knight (on Elizabethan drama and satire) and Gabor Kecskemeti (on the reception of Ramist rhetoric in Hungary and Transylvania) were invited additions.
