Reconceptualizing the Literacies in Adolescents' Lives：Bridging the Everyday/Academic Divide

Adolescents' lives have been changed by evolving technology since this text's first and second editions (1998 and 2006). The third edition incorporates more attention to multimodal meaning construction and to the practical implications of online environments, and it includes a companion website with links to instructional activities, blogs, and other content. Also new are teacher commentaries at the end of each section. Sixteen contributions are arranged in sections on understanding youth's everyday literacies, integrating everyday and academic literacies, sociocultural and identity issues in adolescents' literary lives, and teacher professional development. The editors are affiliated as follows: Donna E. Alvermann (language and literacy education, U. of Georgia) and Kathleen A. Hinchman (reading and language arts, Syracuse U.).
