商品簡介
When parents and teachers discuss and uncover the politics behind the top-down accountability movement in education, they are engaged in "volatile knowing," according to Tollefson (education, California State U. Channel Islands), and are enabled to counter with a move towards accountability focused on the needs of the child. She conducts a case study of such "volatile knowing" by a group of parents and teachers she organized to talk about the use of standardized tests, the perpetuation of unequal opportunity structures in education, the de-professionalization of teachers, and the political structuring of parent involvement. She analyzes the influence of participants' identities on the course of the discussion and assesses the impact of "volatile knowing" on prospects for individual or collective action.
