商品簡介
The pursuit of the good life is a universal feature of humanity, says Lim (sociology, Nanyang Technical U., Singapore), and he describes how it is conducted by the villagers of Langtang. He explores how they seek both material and spiritual well-being as they are incorporated into the Nepalese state and engage with the global capitalist economy, and as their culture is transformed by the process. The question is more than academic, he argues, because practices and policies relating to development, modernization, political reform, and other endeavors are grounded on some desired end, but that end is usually not articulated.
