商品簡介
This four-volume set on Chinese politics is one of two Contemporary Chinese Studies references; the other is also a four-volume set, with a focus on the Chinese economy and society. Editor Tak-Wing Ngo (political science, U. of Macau, China) provides a thoughtful introduction emphasizing the need for a systemic approach to China studies that decompartmentalizes current scholarship within various sub-disciplines. Toward that end he has carefully selected and organized 56 previously published articles and book chapters to "...highlight central themes, identify gaps, juxtapose paradoxes, and underline the inter-connectedness between different areas of studies." He also provides an introduction to each volume, each of which is devoted to a theme: continuities and changes of the party-state (v.1); forms of discipline and control (v.2), local autonomy under central authority (v.3), and shifting identities and the quest for national unity (v.4). Sources include The Journal of Asian Studies, Comparative Politics, Communist and Post-Communist Studies, and Political Science Quarterly. The volumes are not indexed.
