Immobility: Preventing Complications

This program describes general nursing measures, such as frequent position changes, to reduce pressure for patients in both bed and wheelchair. It illustrates more advanced techniques, such as "bridging" for patients who require complete relief of pressure. Further, it describes some of the pressure reducing equipment - mattresses, mattress overlays, mattress replacements, and specialty beds. It also emphasizes discharge planning and patient teaching to prevent or heal pressure ulcers at home.
