Like others in the I Tatti Renaissance Library series, this volume presents a translation from Latin of a major work of the Italian Renaissance. Facing pages display the original Latin text and the readable English translation; and each volume includes an introduction, notes on the text, a brief bibliography, and indexing. Lorenzo Valla (1407-1457) wrote Dialectical Disputations to refute Aristotleian logic and introduce a commonsense approach to semantics and argument. The present volume is the second of two and contains Valla's Books II and III in which he refutes Aristotle's works on propositions, topics, and the syllogistic. The two editor- translators are affiliated as follows: Brian P. Copenhaver (history and philosophy, UCLA) and Lodi Nauta (history of philosophy, University of Groningen, the Netherlands.
