商品簡介
Though it was elaborated in the distant context of the early 14th century, Panaccio (U. of Quebec) says that William of Ockham's nominalism, still provides a challenging and fruitful body of theory to be in dialogue with today. Focusing on what Ockham called conceptus and took as the basic units of mental representation, he examines such aspects as abstraction and singular terms, the razor argument against intelligible species, and simple and complex units. He finds that Ockham proposed something close to what today is called an atomistic theory of concepts. Some of the material has been published and delivered in earlier form.
