L.M. Elliott is the author of a number of picture books and award-winning historical YA novels, including Under A War-Torn Sky, one of the Bank Street Best Children's Books of the Year in 2002, a Notable Book in Social Studies (NCSS/CBC), a Jefferson Cup Honor Book, winner of Border's Original Voices Award for YA Literature, and a finalist for the Iowa, PA, SC, and MD state teen literature awards; Annie, Between the States; A Troubled Peace; and Flying South. A long-time writer for the Washingtonian magazine, Elliott was twice a finalist for the National Magazine Award and recipient of numerous Dateline awards. She wrote often on children, women's issues, and health. Elliott graduated from Wake Forest University and holds a masters degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina. She lives in Northern Virginia with her husband, two children, and their many pets.
