Eleven Indian social work academics contribute 11 chapters to a text for India's social work educators, scholars, and students, bridging the gap between theory-based textbook descriptions of social work methods and the development of the method-linked skills social workers need to perform their jobs effectively. The text resulted from skill lab session research conducted by faculty and outside experts at the Karve Institute of Social Service, Pune, India, as part of a larger effort by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, to revise India's social work education curriculum. Coverage includes using the laboratory approach in skill training for social workers; understanding perception, self-awareness, and sensitivity development as preparation for social work; communication processes; using audio-visual and other innovative communication media; and working with individuals and families, with groups, and with communities.
