商品簡介
Based on her PhD thesis (2007, Osnabruck U.) Heine's text investigates the effects of foreign language use on the cognitive processes of meaning-focused problem solving--as opposed to form-focused activities--to better understand what happens when humans deal with nonlinguistic tasks in a foreign language setting. In the process, she examines whether or not it makes a difference if a meaning-focused task is solved in a second language (L2) dominated environment, compared to a first language context. The research is particularly relevant where an L2 is used as a working language in educational settings, such as immersion programs or "content and language integrated learning" classrooms. The study contributes to theoretical knowledge concerning the relation between content processing and language, methodological issues on process research, the understanding of language production and language reception, and the design of learning contexts.
