Picard (CRIA-New U. of Lisbon, Portugal) and Robinson (U. of Birmingham, UK) present a multidisciplinary collection of 16 papers exploring the role of emotion and affect in tourism through disciplinary lenses that include history, anthropology, socio-psychology, psychiatry, and comparative literature. Contributions are organized into three sections that, broadly speaking, address emotional transformations within the mind of the tourist as they travel; ways in which certain sights and attractions become associated with, or are seen to be imbued with, particular emotional states; and the ways that certain emotions become embedded in the behaviors of tourists and the representation and imaginaries of places and people.
