Emerging Perspectives in Japanese Human Resource Management

Japanese-style management is ‘the’ post-war human resource management (HRM) success story. Even today it continues to offer an alternative pathway to creating competitive advantages. Japanese HRM, however, is not a static construct, and demands permanent attention. Charting the de facto human resource dynamics of the world’s third largest economy, this volume collates concurrent thinking on Japanese management. Japanese firms have always exhibited a remarkable ability to adapt to changing externalities and emerge strengthened from challenges. The contributions in this book present fresh insights into the realities of Japanese change management that are likely to influence the redesign of globally operating Japanese firms.

Sierk A. Horn is senior lecturer in Japanese Studies at the University of Leeds (UK). He was awarded a PhD in Japanese Studies and a habilitation from Freie Universitat Berlin (Germany). He has published widely in the fields of consumer behaviour in East Asia, international knowledge transfer, and strategic management of Japanese and European multinational enterprises.
