Pentateuchal Traditions in the Late Second Temple Period—Proceedings of the International Workshop in Tokyo, August 28-31, 2007

The emphasis of the workshop was the textual transmission history of the Greek version of the first five books of the Bible in the Hellenistic and Roman periods, with special attention given to variant readings from the Dead Sea Scrolls and the uses of the Pentateuch in the Hellenistic and Roman periods. Among the topics are the evolutionary growth of the Pentateuch during the Second Temple period, which version of the Greek Bible Philo read, the importance of the latter half of Josephus' Judaean Antiquities for his Roman audience, the Pentateuch reflected in the Aramaic documents of the Dead Sea Scrolls, and searching for further points of contact between east and west in the geographical horizon of the textual transmission of the Pentateuch.
