Floricel et al. (project management, management, and innovation management, U. of Quebec, Canada) outline the three-stage approach they used to examine how project organizations deal with unexpected events. To understand the response capacity and its influence on the success of a complex project, they consider sociological theories on the nature of the social structure of projects and the process of its emergence, properties of the project structure that make up its response capacity and their nature and effectiveness, and the importance of planning activities. Following this section on theoretical development is the qualitative investigation stage, in which they outline 17 case studies of projects in infrastructure, digital, and discovery sectors in North America and Europe and their activities and relationship to the theoretical dimensions. For the final stage, quantitative exploration, they present the results of research involving 71 projects worldwide using a survey to measure the theoretical variables. There is no index.
