The symposium continued the two-decade tradition of symposia on nano-mechanical behavior of materials at the Society's fall meetings. The proceedings reflect the particular interest this year on using small-scale tests to examine a locally small structure or defect, and using nano-mechanics to determine nanometer-scale mechanisms that control macroscopic mechanical behavior.
