商品簡介

A specialist in marine, insurance, and environmental law, Morrison (Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security) explores legal aspects of allowing--or not--ships in trouble to stop someplace where the problem can be fixed or the damage minimized. Until the 1970s, he says, such requests were rarely refused, but with the increase in oil and other hazardous cargo, ports have become reluctant to receive a ship that is leaking or might leak. He argues that current approaches are inadequate, and a new one is required. In particular, he critically analyzes proposed solutions in the International Maritime Organization's IMO Guidelines and the proposed Comite Maritime International draft Instrument. The study is based largely on his PhD dissertation at the University of Wollongong, Australia. Martinus Nijhoff is an imprint of Brill. Annotation c2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
