International Trademark Classification

International Trademark Classification helps trademark attorneys and IP attorneys to properly classify good and services on trademark applications.

It explains the forty-five Classes of goods and services that were adopted under the Nice Agreement, a worldwide classification system for trademark registration that is adhered to by more than seventy countries. It sets forth the Official Text of Class Headings and the Explanatory Notes of which goods and services are included or excluded from each Class. This is followed by the Authors examination of each item within the Class, including those items for which there are no official explanations. The book's approach is international in scope and is not organized from the viewpoint of any specific jurisdiction.
The Third Edition incorporates the changes brought about by the 9th Edition of the Nice Agreement Classification, which is effective as of 1 January 2007. The specific changes from the 8th edition are separately explained, so that the reader can quickly grasp what those changes are.

Jessie N. Roberts (formerly Jessie N. Marshall) is a leading authority on the interpretation of the Nice Agreement Concerning the International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purposes of the Registration of Marks. She currently serves as the Administrator for Trademark Identification, Classification and Practice at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). In her current position she represents the US at meetings concerning the administration of the Nice Agreement that are held at the offices of the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland. She previously worked for WIPO as the Classification Officer in the International Trademark and Industrial Design Classification Section.
