Portraying 9/11 ─ Essays on Representations in Comics, Literature, Film and Theatre

Bragard (comparative literature, the Catholic U. of Louvain, Belgium) gathers essays on images and narratives of the September 11th attacks in comics, literature, film, and performance. Contributors ask whether we can speak of 9/11 as a genre itself and reminds us that memory is subject to assimilation, appropriation, and distortion. Some of the authors whose work is examined include Don DeLillo, Ian McEwan, David Foster Wallace, William Gibson, Ken Kalfus, and Jonathan Safran Foer. Films discussed include United 93, World Trade Center, Superman Returns, and Batman Begins. New Yorker comics and the plays of Anne Nelson are also discussed.
