Stressing the need to embed active and prescriptive portfolio management in the organization, Bayney, a business consultant, provides an orientation to strategic planning and enterprise project portfolio management for new and seasoned project portfolio management practitioners, financial managers, resource managers, and strategists who are responsible for advising executives. The book is also useful for graduate students and for entrepreneurs in traditional and innovative areas. After a review of basic concepts, one section is devoted to scenario analysis, strategic planning, decision framing, and data integrity as pre-requisites for enterprise project portfolio management. Part 3 presents a complete framework for enterprise project portfolio management, covering elements such as project categorization, risk analysis, and portfolio optimization. Two case studies follow an R&D portfolio from drug discovery to market, and an IT portfolio with discovery, project, and asset phases. Appendices offer primers in decision analysis and mathematical programming. The book includes summary charts and process diagrams. Annotation c2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
