Transforming High Schools Through Response to Intervention ─ Lessons Learned and a Pathway Forward

Koselak, an RTI coordinator and teacher who has worked with at-risk high school students in all content areas (with a focus on math), explains how to implement response to intervention (RTI) at the high school level, based on his experiences with a high school team that created a version of RTI for secondary schools. The approach takes into account the specific challenges high schools face with RTI, including limitations for special education eligibility determination, and describes implementation and data-based decision making across all systems and tiers and the lessons learned. He highlights the features of RTI worth implementing as well as those that need more research, the role of the student support center, and specific interventions for math and literacy.
