Symmons organized a conference at Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland in June 2010 titled "Current Problematic Issues in the Law of the Sea." This volume presents 15 papers from that conference arranged in sections on legal questions relating to straight baselines and "non-natural basepoints," problems of exercise of jurisdiction in international waters (including human rights considerations and conflicting uses of the EEZ and residual high sea freedoms), jurisdictional and definitional problems relating to the law of piracy, and practice and problems related to the outer limits of the continental shelf. Clive R. Symmons, Ph.D. is Research Associate in the School of Law, Trinity College, Dublin, and Adjunct Professor, Marine Law and Ocean Policy Centre, University College, Galway. He has published extensively on law of the sea issues, including his latest book Historic Waters in the Law of the Sea (Nijhoff, 2008).
