The Gulen Hizmet Movement and Its Transnational Activities

The Gulen, or Hizmet (service) movement is carried out by a Turkish, Sufi Muslim, and humanitarian civil society group that accomplish collective projects at an international level as a form of Islamic practice. Here scholars of history, communication, religion, and other disciplines analyze recent activities and projects. They cover interfaith dialogues; Hizmet, women, and gender; and schools around the world. Among the topics are the Hizmet movement in the dialogue between Muslim and Christian religion traditions, Gulen's vision in dialogue with East Asian religious cultures, framing women's issues in The Fountain magazine, using the Gulen movement to broaden discussions in the West concerning Muslim women, Gulen-inspired schools in Australia and their funding, and promoting multicultural harmony in Nigeria.
