商品簡介
Partial differential equations are essential to the study of a variety of physical phenomena and fields as disparate as aircraft simulation and computer graphics. This text integrates analysis and numerical solution methods with modeling to address real-life problems, including case studies using elliptic, parabolic and hyperbolic equations. The authors start with an overview of differential and difference equations and then cover characterization and classification, Fourier theory, distributions and fundamental solutions, approximation by finite differences, the equations of continuum mechanics and electromagnetics and modeling. They then describe analysis and numerical methods for elliptic, parabolic and hyperbolic equations, including numerical methods for scalar hyperbolic equations, and perturbation methods. Sixteen case studies follow with such topics as galloping transmission lines, groundwater flow and rain and forming container glass. Annotation c2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
