商品簡介
Sanders' (English, U. of Hull, UK) sequel to her 2000 Records of Girlhood collection offers scholars a continuation of the earlier volume and a review of developments of critical interest in the genre. Through both volumes, Sanders makes available textual materials generally difficult to find outside copyright libraries. The second volume features passages by 14 children's authors, political figures, and well-known writers, born between the 1780s and 1860s, including Lady Morgan (Sydney Owenson), Anna Eliza Bray, Mary Wright Sewell, Mary Cowden Clarke, Louisa Twining, Marianne North, Mary Elizabeth Braddon, Anne Thackeray Ritchie, Frances Hodgson Burnett, Sarah Grand, Menie Muriel Dowie, Emmeline Pankhurst, E. Nesbit, and Mary Cholmondeley. The selected passages reveal contributions of the authors' childhood experiences to the development of their adult personalities.
