Mawere, a Ph.D. student of social anthropology at U. of Cape Town, argues that Africans have various critical methods and concepts of ontology and epistemology that can and should be recognized as legitimate disciplines for study in college and university curricula. He focuses on African metaphysics and epistemology, which he contends are practically inseparable, but also on the cultural roots of these practices and beliefs. Other specific topics include African conceptions of time, the compatibility between Western and African metaphysics, person-hood in African philosophy, indigenous knowledge systems as African epistemology, witchcraft as epistemology, faith and revelation, as well as explorations of the knowledge-system of specific peoples.
