The first two volumes of this multi-volume work were published in 2005; this third volume itself comprises two books bound separately but sold together as one. The first is devoted to text, and the second to illustrations. Envisioning a ready-reference for students of antiquity and a handy resource for archaeological fieldwork, Wright (formerly of the U. of Munich) covers the formulations of projects (drawings, specifications), site surveying and development, and the use of various building materials from pre-history to the end of antiquity. Some 400 fully captioned illustrations support the text. During much of his life the author has pursued his passion for recording and restoring monuments in many parts of the world and has written extensively about the technicalities of restoration projects as well as about the history of architecture and the history or religion. G.R.H. Wright studied history, law and architecture. He taught at the University of Munich and spent a lifetime recording and restoring monuments throughout the Mediterranean, the Middle East, East Africa and Southern India. His many publications include equally works on the History of Architecture and on the History of Religion, as also technical accounts of restoration projects.
