Women Artists in the Modern Era — A Documentary History

This is a paperbound reprint of a 1991 book. Waller (Portland School of Art, Maine) presents selections from 61 primary source documents that illuminate the experience of women artists from the mid-18th to the mid-20th centuries. The selections include letters, journals, and memoirs of artists; critics' reviews of women's work at exhibitions; and minutes and reports of artists' societies and schools. Arrangement is in sections on women and the academies, strong-minded artists, wives and artists, lady amateurs, the decorative arts, art schools, women artists organize, and the avant-garde.
