商品簡介

Four Arrows (Jacobs), who teaches educational leadership and change at Fielding Graduate U., argues that mainstream education in the US is hegemonic and influenced by corporate ideals and needs to be partnered with indigenous perspectives to allow authentic, truth-based teaching, thereby countering mainstream policies, politics, and curriculum. He shows teachers at any grade level and from any background how to create more meaningful, truthful, and equitable educational experiences that revitalize nature-base systems thinking, encourage appreciation for diversity and multiple interpretations of reality, develop character and emotional intelligence, stimulate self-reflection, question anthropocentrism, move away from authoritative status quo paradigms and into experiential-becoming ones, embrace the mysterious and the spirit in all, encourage respect for and survival of all life, and contribute to the public good. Chapters address the anti-Indian view and its effects; the phenomenon of historical trauma, the impact of anti-Indianism schooling, and the role of education in suppressing indigenous wisdom; an example of efforts to indigenize a school; ideas, strategies, and recommendations for incorporating the indigenous perspective; and lesson plans for health, music, English language arts, US history, math, economics, science, and geography. The final chapter addresses psychology and spirituality. For some chapters, he is joined by other contributors. There is no index. Annotation c2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
