商品簡介
This unique work assesses the current regulation of international trade in gambling services. Departing from different national definitions, `gambling' represents, in this study, all services which involve wagering a stake with monetary value in uncertain events driven (at least partially) by chance, including lotteries, casino and betting transactions.
`International trade' of such services implies that the provider, the beneficiary or the service itself must cross a national border. Therefore, notwithstanding a brief evocation of selected national legal frameworks on five continents, the author focuses on international regulations governing - principally or incidentally - provision of such services. In this context, Internet-provided gambling services were granted special attention.
The driving concept of the book's analysis, whether global or regional, is to examine the pertinent international trade regulations in services in the light of the very special nature of gambling.
With this work, the author earned in 2009 her PhD (Magna cum Laude) from the University of Neuchatel, Switzerland. The book embodies her extensive knowledge and experience acquired as a law teacher and practitioner and her interest in the intriguing and extremely lucrative nature of gambling, one of man's perennial follies and vices.
