The EU, Migration and the Politics of Administrative Detention

Migration has started to be treated as a security problem in public debate and policies, and detention as a governance practice underscores this understanding.

This book examines the phenomenon of irregular immigration and provides a comprehensive picture of the practices and the implications of detention for migration purposes as applied to irregular immigration by the European Union, Member States, and Neighbourhood. Offering multi-faceted perspectives to gain analytical strength over ‘detention’ as a governance tool, the book examines:

• The security risk/challenge/threat for Europe?
• The security governance processes enacted to handle irregular immigration at the European level and main actors.
