SUDHIR VENKATESH is the William B. Ransford Professor of Sociology, and a member of the Committee on Global Thought, at Columbia University. Venkatesh’s writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, and The Washington Post. He lives in New York City.
