商品簡介
Sigurd Bergmann describes religion as the skill of “making oneself at home.” This book explores the ways in which religion is a functional part of humans' understanding of their lived environment, through the ways in which it shapes human physical interactions with environment, such as the built forms and physical locations of gravesites, places of worship and spiritually-themed sculptures. Religion is seen as a creator of sense of place, with the ability to sacralize or re-sacralize spaces. Some specific topics include urban spaces; wandering in Mayan sacred geography; decolonization and indigenous sacred landscapes; and the intersection between established religion, nature and the challenges now presented to both by climate change. Primarily a theology book, the work reflects the author's thinking and travels over a decade, and is illustrated throughout with photos of a variety of art works, outdoor memorials, sacred structures and lived environments, spanning many cultures, continents and centuries.
