商品簡介
Writing for undergraduates with a general interest in German history, Hahn (German, Oxford Brookes U.) presents an overview of the 1848 revolutions and its antecedents, beginning with German reactions to the French Revolution. Arguing that the undue influence of Marx has led scholars to overemphasize the role of workers and peasants in the 1848 revolutions, Hahn supports a more Hegelian viewpoint that stresses the centrality of the revolutionary leadership and inspiration of Germany's academic community. Developments seemingly on the fringe of the topic, such as democratic reforms in Switzerland and Prussia are given more centrality than is common and the whole topic is looked at through the lens of the gradual development of democratic forms, rather than the revolutionary potential of the events.
