商品簡介
Himself a Pukhtun, one of the non-dominant ethnic groups, Khan (health sociology, U. of New England, Australia) analyzes ethnic conflict in Pakistan as a political issue, and considers politics to be about power rather than about morals and principles. He begins by looking at the power of the state in people's lives and self-identity, both in general and in colonial India and independent Pakistan. Then he describes Pukhtun, Baloch, Sindi, and Mohajir ethnic nationalism. He does not consider the Pashtuns, who are the dominant group, nor the Bengalis, who split off to form their own country. The study was his Ph.D. dissertation at the University of Wollongong. Annotation c2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
