商品簡介
It was not a single work that denoted the transmission of Western thought from being imbued by Christianity to humanism, but the West-ostlicher Divan comes close. Shamel (German and Persian, Defense Language Institute) describes how East met West in it, and how Goethe used it to prepare his own version in the eighteenth century. Shamel begins by examining Goethe's previous work in Weimar. He then covers the tradition of court poetry in the Ghazal, and discusses Hafiz's experiences in Shiraz and the resulting convergence of East and West in Persian poetry. He finally shows how Goethe received the Divan, how he used it, and how it affected his philosophy of history. Annotation c2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
