Other critics have addressed the representation of the body in the narrative fiction of Catalan woman writer Rodoreda (1908-83) drawing on different aspects of feminist theory and gender studies, says Bru-Dominguez, but largely to the exclusion of socio-historical context. She shows how Rodoreda's work engages with and explores formulaic and normative notions of the gendered/sexed body that are particular to a cultural, geographical, and political space. But moving beyond the division between socio-historical and feminist analyses, she also presents her as an author who merits reading in terms of contemporary theory and formulations of the construction and performance of gender and the body. Eva Bru-Dominguez is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Hispanic Studies, University College Cork, funded by the Irish Research Council. Her main research interests include the representation of the body, gender and sexuality studies, as well as Catalan visual culture and literature.
