商品簡介
Italian Dominican scholar Camporeale (1928-2002) was one of the writers who renewed interest in the writings of 15th-century thinker Valla (1406-57), but little of his work has been translated into English. Here Baker (history, Humboldt-U. zu Berlin) translates two of his essays on Valla published in the journal Memorie Domenicane during 2002. He has loosened up the writing from the dense style Camporeale used, he says, but otherwise had revised very little. The essays are Lorenzo Valla and the De falso credita donatione: Rhetoric,Freedom, and Ecclesiology in the Fifteenth Century; and Lorenzo Valla between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance: The Encomium of St. Thomas--1457. Baker also translates Valla's Encomium of St. Thomas Aquinas on pages facing the original Latin. Annotation c2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
