商品簡介
Kwazu, a Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of Onitsha, conducts a study of poverty, its impact upon people, and how it is affected by human rights. He begins with a thorough discussion of the background, statement, purpose, significance, objectives, scope, and methodology of the study, and explains the terms associated with poverty and human rights. He then discusses causes and alleviation of poverty in Nigeria since independence, and the causes, effects and alleviation of poverty among Igboland subsistence farmers. He discusses the Igbo-Biafran civil war and the subsequent marginalization of the Igbo group by socio-political discrimination. He cites the incidence of good governance and government disciplinary strategy, then takes a pragmatic and synthetic approach to poverty alleviation, including allying people with capabilities, communal outreach (a "bottom-up" approach) and government (a "top-down" approach).
