Jonathan Langley was born in Lancaster in 1952. He studied graphic design and illustration at Liverpool College of Art and the Central School of Art and Design. In 1974, he became a freelance illustrator, working in publishing, editorial, advertising, and design. He has illustrated several books for children, including The Wind in the Willows, The Wizard of Oz, and Kipling's Just So Stories. He has also collaborated on several books with eminent children's author, Michael Rosen, including Snore! - winner of the Gold Book Award for Best Illustrated Book at the Parents Magazine Play and Learn Awards in 1998.
