Multiple Sclerosis ― A Guide to Pharmacologic Treatment

The arena of multiple sclerosis (MS) treatment has changed substantially over the past twenty years. Now, nine different agents are approved for use in MS with several different routes of administration, safety characteristics, and efficacy profiles. For the clinician and patient, the availability of agents means greater flexibility and chances of disease control. However, the expansion of options has also made the treatment of MS an increasingly complex field. This book is intended to help the general neurologist, internist, and pharmaceutical industry agent to quickly become familiar with the current and future options for treating relapsing forms of MS.

Dr. Daniel Ontaneda is an assistant professor of medicine and neurology at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. He received his medical degree from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Ecuador and holds a Master of Science in clinical research from Case Western Reserve University. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, with a focus on multiple sclerosis. Dr. Ontaneda is a staff neurologist at the Mellen Center and is board certified in neurology. He is currently pursuing a PhD in clinical investigation at Case Western Reserve University with a focus on translational and multidisciplinary research. Dr. Ontaneda sees patients with multiple sclerosis at the Mellen Center and attends on the inpatient neurology service at the Cleveland Clinic.
