Based on a data set covering the last two decades of India’s development, this study analyzes the financial performance of public sector enterprises, assessing their success in adapting to a liberalized business environment of disinvestment and subsidy cuts.
Prof. P. K. Jain is Professor of Finance at Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He is also the Modi Foundation Chair Professor. Earlier he had been the Dalmia Chair Professor and coordinator of Dalmia Research Programme on Management in Asia. He has a teaching experience of more than 35 years in subjects related to Management Accounting, Financial Management, Financial Accounting, Cost Analysis and Cost Control. He had taught at the Foundation for Technical Institute, Basrah and University of Basrah, Iraq. He was a visiting faculty at the University of Paris I and School of Management, Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok. He is also serving as a visiting faculty at the International Centre for Promotion of Enterprises Ljubljana, Slovenia for the last 11 years and has been conferred the title of Honorary Visiting Professor by the Faculty of Economics, Ljubljana. He has authored/co-authored a dozen text books (some of them have run more than two dozen reprints and four editions) and 11 research books. He has also published more than 135 research papers in Journals of national and international repute. He has organized several Management Development Programme (MDPs)/Continuing Education Programmes (CEPs) both for public and private sector executives in the areas of Finance. He has also been running an online Executive Development Programmes on Finance for Non-Finance Executives. These programmes are being done in e-learning mode in collaboration with Macmillan India Ltd. Since its launch, more than 300 senior executives from various organizations have participated. His contributions in the field of Finance have been recognized at national and international levels and several awards and recognition have been conferred on him. Recently he has been awarded the “Best Teacher (2012)” by IIT Delhi.
Prof. Surendra S. Yadav, Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, received his Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech.) degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur India, did his MBA from University of Delhi, India and Ph.D. in Management from University of Paris, France.
His research interest lies in Corporate Finance, International Finance, International Business and Security Analysis & Portfolio Management. He has been delivering lectures at various institutions in India as well as abroad. He has been a visiting professor at University of Paris 1, INSEEC Paris and John H Sykes College of Business, University of Tampa, USA.
He has been a consultant for Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Government of India, India Today Group, Continental Carbon India Ltd, Projects & Development India Ltd., National Institute of Communicable Diseases, NHAI, Government of Haryana, Balmer Laurie & Co. among others.
He has been running an online E-learning (Internet based) Executive Development Program in collaboration with Macmillan India Ltd., the participants for which belong to a large number of organizations.
Prof. Surendra S. Yadav has published nine books in areas of finance and management. He has more than 145 papers to his credit, which include 92 papers in reputed research journals, 5 chapters in edited books and 52 papers in conferences. He is the Editor-in-Chief of a reputed international journal, JAMR (Journal of Advances in Management Research), published by Emerald, UK. Prof Surendra S Yadav is a member of several academic committees and editorial boards of various research journals.
