Lamantia played a significant role in both the Beat and the San Francisco Renaissance movements during the 1950s and 1960s, says Frattali (National Tsing Hua U., Taiwan), was one of the first American poets to commit himself entirely to Surrealism, and has a personal relationship with Breton; but is rarely discussed or even included in anthologies of surrealist poetry.
