The first two chapters discuss the clinical construct of gender identity disorder as applied to children and adults and the relationship between child and adult presentation. The book then moves on to education and how school systems can create inclusive environments, teach about gender, and reduce gendered violence. Finally, parenting and community support are addressed, ranging from parents who find gender nonconformity difficult to those who intentionally raise children with a gender-fluid perspective, and support centers for genderqueer youth. Elizabeth J. Meyer (PhD McGill University) is an Assistant Professor in the School of Education at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo and is the author of Gender, Bullying, and Harassment: Strategies to End Sexism and Homophobia in Schools (2009) and Gender and Sexual Diversity in Schools (2010).
Annie Pullen Sansfacon (PhD De Montfort University) is an Associate Professor of Social Work at the Universite de Montreal in Canada and is the author of The Ethical Foundations of Social Work (2012).
