Revising her doctoral dissertation in visual art at the University of Western Ontario, Jordan-Haladyn demonstrates the importance of Russian philosopher Mikhail Bakhtin's (1895-1975) dialogism in analyzing moving image art forms. She argues for a conception of active observership that is predicated on embodiment, which is the key to Bakhtin's understanding of aesthetics. Her topics include dialogism and its material context, Stan Douglas subject to a different response, chronotopic bodies and the we of aesthetic discourse, and Chris Marker and embodied memory.
